The Challenge
Reducing Diesel Dependency While Expanding Network Capacity
Telecom operations in Liberia face unreliable grid supply, high fuel logistics costs, and the need to expand coverage while maintaining service continuity. The client required a scalable power model capable of modernizing existing sites and supporting new deployments, while reducing operational expenditure and environmental impact. Ensuring stable energy supply across more than 500 distributed sites was critical to sustaining network performance and growth.
The Solution
A Tailored T-ESCO Model for Network Modernization
IPT PowerTech implemented a full T-ESCO (Telecom Energy Service Company) solution in partnership with Orange, covering more than 500 sites nationwide. The project combined network modernization with progressive solarization of existing infrastructure, supported by optimized diesel generation and intelligent energy management. For new site deployments, IPT designed custom hybrid energy architectures adapted to each location’s load profile, accessibility, and operational constraints. The T-ESCO model ensured end-to-end responsibility for engineering, deployment, and performance management, enabling predictable energy costs, improved uptime, and a structured transition toward lower-carbon operations.
Results
Lower Fuel Use and Improved Network Stability
The program achieved up to 40% reduction in diesel consumption, delivering significant CO₂ emissions cuts and measurable operating cost savings. Network stability and power availability were enhanced across modernized sites, supporting service continuity and customer experience. New hybrid-powered sites enabled faster rollout and long-term energy resilience, demonstrating the effectiveness of IPT PowerTech’s T-ESCO approach in accelerating sustainable telecom infrastructure development.
