The Challenge
Enabling Reliable Power for Digital Education
In Douala, access to reliable electricity remains a key barrier to deploying digital education infrastructure in public schools. The Government Nursery and Primary School in Bilonguè required a stable and sustainable power source to support a new digital learning center equipped with connected devices. The objective was to ensure continuous operation, minimize energy costs, and enable long-term access to digital tools for over 700 pupils.
The Solution
A Fully Integrated Solar Power System for Education
IPT PowerTech designed and deployed a complete solar energy system with battery storage, ensuring uninterrupted power supply for the digital learning center. The installation includes 40 high-efficiency solar panels (580W each), delivering clean energy to the facility, supported by 2 inverters (11 kW each) for optimized power conversion. Energy storage is secured through 7 batteries (48V / 150Ah), enabling continuous operation beyond daylight hours. The system is further reinforced with AC and DC protection panels, ensuring safety, stability, and long-term performance. This infrastructure powers a facility equipped with 70 computers and tablets connected to high-speed internet, all housed within a structure built from sustainable, recycled materials.
Results
Sustainable Access to Digital Learning
The solar-powered solution provides reliable, cost-efficient energy, significantly reducing electricity expenses while ensuring uninterrupted operation of the digital learning center. Over 700 pupils now benefit from continuous access to digital education tools and online resources. The project contributes to reducing carbon emissions while supporting national digital inclusion objectives, aligning with initiatives such as UNICEF’s “Connect My School” program and Cameroon’s National Development Strategy.
