The Challenge
Challenge Heading: Optimizing Energy Consumption Across 163 Sites
MTN Nigeria aimed to optimize energy consumption across its telecom network while transitioning to a cleaner and more cost-effective power model. Reducing reliance on diesel generators, improving energy efficiency, and maintaining a stable power supply across geographically distributed sites were key priorities. The project required a tailored approach capable of addressing the specific energy demand and available power sources at each location while supporting the client’s wider sustainability objectives.
The Solution
Solution Heading: Tailored Solar Hybrid Power Solutions
IPT PowerTech deployed a customized solar hybrid power solution across 163 MTN Nigeria telecom sites, adapting each configuration to its energy load and available power sources. The solution integrates solar panels, battery storage, power systems, and a Remote Monitoring System (RMS) to optimize energy use and improve operational visibility. IPT PowerTech managed the complete project lifecycle, from equipment supply and installation to commissioning and ongoing after-sales support. The integrated approach combines renewable energy generation with battery storage and remote monitoring to reduce dependence on diesel generators while maintaining reliable power for telecom operations. RMS enables remote tracking of site performance and supports proactive maintenance through improved visibility into system status and potential faults.
Results
Results Heading: Lower Generator Dependency and Smarter Energy Management
The deployment supports more efficient energy consumption across all 163 sites, reducing generator runtime and fuel consumption by increasing the use of solar energy and battery storage. The hybrid configuration is designed to maintain a stable power supply, while RMS enhances operational visibility, supports proactive maintenance, and enables faster fault detection. By integrating renewable energy into its telecom infrastructure, MTN Nigeria is also advancing its sustainability objectives and reducing the carbon footprint associated with site power generation.
