Project Scope
End-to-end power infrastructure upgrades for data center and switch sites
The Challenge
Strengthening Power Reliability at Critical Sites
MTN Uganda required a trusted engineering partner capable of modernizing its power infrastructure across high-priority network facilities. The challenge centered on enhancing capacity, improving resilience, and ensuring uninterrupted service delivery in a fast-growing telecom environment. MTN needed an experienced provider able to deliver integrated upgrades — from design and equipment deployment to synchronization, protection systems, and long-term operational stability.
The Solution
Integrated Power Modernization for High-Availability Networks
IPT PowerTech delivered a comprehensive, multi-phase upgrade program combining electrical engineering expertise, advanced equipment integration, and reliable execution. At the MTN Mutundwe Data Center, IPT expanded the site’s power capacity from 1 MW to 4 MW through the installation of new transformers, feeder pillars, synchronization panels, stabilizers, and upgraded LV distribution systems. Additional enhancements at the Masindi Switch Center included dual 200 kVA generators, synchronized and automatic transfer systems, and a robust manual changeover solution. IPT’s approach ensured optimal redundancy, improved load management, and higher system reliability, supporting MTN Uganda’s growing operational demands.
Results
Enhanced Network Stability and Future Scalability
The modernization program significantly strengthened MTN Uganda’s power resilience across critical facilities. The increased capacity at Mutundwe enables long-term scalability, while the Masindi upgrades ensure continuous operation under variable grid and generator conditions. These improvements support higher uptime, better energy performance, and overall operational continuity for nationwide subscribers. The collaboration reinforces IPT PowerTech’s role as a long-term partner in MTN Uganda’s digital transformation and infrastructure evolution.
